FAME 2009 is set to open September 19th, and so far there are some pretty great pieces in the works. Held in Grottaglie, Italy, a small artisan town know for its ceramics, the Festival invites artists from around the world to stay for 1-4 weeks and work their magic on various places around the city, preparing for the festival between June and September. This year will be the festival’s second in existence.

The photo above is Blu’s most recent work, a commentary on the immense ILVA steel factory situated in Grottaglie, which has somehow been allowed to continue polluting the town despite statistics high cancer death rates.

Other promising pieces in the works- A Blu/Ellis animation (photo 1 below), Lucy McLauchlin’s nesting birds mural on the side of an electricity tower (photo 2; visit the festival’s website to see the time-ellapse video of its painting), a VHILS mural made by scratching off plaster (photo 3), a fantastic wall by Conor Harrington (photo 4), and finally some great mural work by Sam3 (photo 5).

Other artists exhibiting work at FAME ’09 (that I’ll probably cover in detail at another time) include: Erica il Cane, David Ellis, Word To Mother, Judith Supine, Will Barras, etc. More photos as the festival gets ready to open.
